Hotels Hotel room rates have been on the decrease all over the world. This is the report from the Hotel Price Index that is produced by Hotels.com.. During the first half of 2009, average hotel rates worldwide decreased by 17%. In the U.S. this means a decrease in average rates from $139 per night in 2008 to $115 per night in 2009.

Every continent experienced a fall in rates with Latin America leading the way with a drop of 18%. North American rates fell by 17% and rates in Europe fell by 16%. David Roche, President of Hotels.com, says that this is the most dramatic change in hotel rates they have seen in the history of the Hotel Price Index. Hotels around the world are giving customers more and more discounts and incentives and this is making greater luxury more affordable for more people than it has ever been in the past five years.
