Ill Vacationers Returning from Cuba

Thursday and Friday of last week saw three Air Transat flights bringing passenger home to Canada from the city of Holguin and surrounding region in Cuba. On these flights were plenty of sick people. The third such flight, arriving at the Toronto Pearson International Airport at 3:00 pm, carried a 14 people who were experiencing symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and fever.

The Public Health Agency of Canada had staff on hand to screen all passengers from the three flights, mainly to determine whether of not those who were ill should be quarantined. No such precaution was taken and all ill passengers were sent home. Debbie Cabana, a spokeswoman from Air Transat, said that it appeared those who were affected has some sort of virus. A flight landed in Ottawa at 3:00 pm on Friday from the same region in Cuba and on it were an 11 people who were also ill.
