Chandigarh City has been waiting for the go ahead for international flight since last fall, but political agendas keep getting in the way. Chief minister Parkash Singh Badal had written to Centre to give approval for international flights last December, but this was right before elections were announced. Now the issue of the international flights has become a part of political agendas and they are still waiting for approval. Despite the delay, Air Arabia offered to start three flights a week between Sharjah and Chandigarh. The offer was made last October. Customs status was also granted for the airport. However, they are still waiting approval from the Ministry of Defence (MOD) and Director General Civil Aviation (DGCA). Director of Chandigarh Airport, Captain H S Toor, said that despite the delay, the law must be obeyed before final permission is given. See the original Google News article for more details. |
