A report from fraudtip.com has revealed that more than 71,000 travelers are being scammed each and every month when they make their hotel bookings online. These bookings are being made at some of the top hotels in the U.S., including the TraveLodge, Hyatt, Comfort Inn, Clarion, Red Roof, Super 8, EconoLodge, Days Inn, Ramada, and Wyndham. The scam is very sophisticated, with an internet browser virus that is sending users to fake websites that are copies of the websites of these hotel chains. The scam also includes third-party booking, fake hotel locators, and advanced online advertising. The scale of the scam is large and many different types of hotels are being hit. The hardest hit are Wyndham Worldwide brands Days Inn, Ramada, and Super 8. This is the largest hotel chain in the world and every month a whopping total of more than 50,000 travelers trying to book stays at these hotels are being redirected to bogus sites. |
