Is Mexico Safe For Travelers?
Wednesday, 04 May 2011
Rodolfo Lopez Negrete, the chief operating officer for Consejo de Promocion Turistica de Mexico's (CPTM), assures American travelers that Mexico tourist destinations are entirely safe. The concerns over traveling in Mexico come as a result of tension and violence due to conflict between drug cartels and Mexican security forces. These events have caused a decrease in the number of tourists coming into the country from the U.S. and other international destinations.

More than 22 million tourists visited Mexico in 2010, which was a record year for the country. Since the decrease in tourist visits, Mr. Lopez Negrete and the CPTM have created a plan to revive the tourist industry and see a record 26 million international visitors by 2018. The CPTM wants travelers to know that the violence that has occurred did so in isolated areas far away from the major tourist destinations. The country offers beach vacations coupled with a cultural heritage that is second to none.
