JetBlue Airways Corp. has won the auction for spots at New York's LaGuardia International airport and Washington's Ronald Reagan National airport. They beat out their competition, including rival Southwest Airlines Co., which is the largest discount carrier in the U.S. and which also bid on the available slots at both airports. JetBlue will receive eight pairs of takeoff and landing slots at each airport, slots that Delta Airlines was required to give up in order to obtain approval for the trade of flight slots with US Airways at the airports. The winning bids from JetBlue totalled $72 million. In addition, Canadian carrier WestJet Airlines won eight additional slot pairs at LaGuardia, with bids totalling $17.6 million.
