On Wednesday, Kingfisher Airlines cancelled more than 30 flights, which affected air travelers all over the country who were stranded and many of whom had to book more expensive flights on other airlines. In addition, the airline has announced that from Wednesday on they will be cancelling 50 flights per day. The airline may have to compensate passengers for the cancellations. Kingfisher has received notice regarding the sudden cancellations from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and they expect a reply by Thursday. Last month a Kingfisher Airlines representative, Vijay Mallya, met with government officials to show them the state of the airline, which is floundering financially. Mallya expressed his concern that the playing field is not level and that the state-owned airlines have financial resources available to them that private sector airlines do not.
