Learn A New Skill While On Vacation
Thursday, 11 December 2008
Image On your next vacation, you can lie by the pool reading a trashy novel... or you can learn a new skill that you can bring home. Forbes Traveler recently detailed a number of "learning vacations" around the world, where adults can gain some knowledge while having fun. Among the best:

The "Mahout Course" at the elephant camp at Thailand's Anantara Resort Golden Triangle provides an English-speaking guide and elephant trainer, so you can learn how to mount, ride and care for an elephant, plus basic commands.

Master glass artist Dale Chihuly operates a 65-acre campus, tucked between Washington state's picturesque Cascade Mountains and the Puget Sound. The Pilchuck Glass School offers 17-day courses from May to September, teaching everything from kiln-casting and conceptual flame-working to Venetian glass-blowing and the making of mosaics.

If you like to gamble, why not learn to be good at it? The Casino de Monte-Carlo (pdf file) and the Sun Casino run gambling courses, including European roulette, Punto Banco and blackjack. The courses include admission to the casino, lessons, cocktails, a diploma, and a handful of chips to test what you've learned.
