LIAT, the airline based in Antigua, now says that their flights are running on-time. This announcement comes just three days after the airline experienced strike action by its pilots in protest to the termination of employment of Captain Michael Blackburn. The airline has announced that there are no further flight cancelations expected, although they gave no word on whether an agreement had been reached. LIAT operates 110 flights each day and many of these flights had to be canceled last week due to the strike. Thousands of passengers were stranded as a result. Despite this and the ongoing strike the airline stands by its decision to dismiss Captain Blackburn as they say the dismissal was warranted. Others disagree, saying he was targeted for statements he made as trade union leader. See the original Google News article for more details. |
