PT Lion Mentari Airlines is the largest budget carrier in Indonesia and has put in an order for 230 new Boeing 737 aircraft that they will receive between 2017 and 2025. Lion Air, based in Jakarta, will use the new aircraft to expand their service to include China, Taiwan, and South Korea. The order will be financed by loans, including one from the U.S. Export-Import Bank. The airline is anticipating carrying as many as 27 million passengers this year and this is an increase of 30% over last year. This increase is expected to continue at 15% per year as the airline expands its service. In addition, with Indonesia's economy expanding as much as 6.5% this year, the country is planning on improving the infrastructure of the airline industry, including the construction of 14 new airports.
