German airline Lufthansa will be pulling their flights from Frankfurt to Calgary, four years after the direct route was established. The airline currently operates four non-stop flights per week, but the final flight is scheduled to leave the Calgary International Airport on February 4. Martin Riecken, a spokesman for Lufthansa, said that over the past year the route has not met their expectations and although they have no immediate plans to bring back the service, the idea is left as a possibility for the future. Demand from both Canadian and European passengers has been down and the route has become a money-loser for the airline. Riecken said that the decision was not taken lightly and that all passengers who had flights booked for dates after the final February 4th flight have been accommodated through rebookings. Air Canada, a Star Alliance partner to Lufthansa, also offers flights from Calgary to Frankfurt. See the original Google News article for more details. |
