Many of the flights due to take place in Europe are being canceled due to the recent winter weather. This is due to the fact that part of the Paris Charles de Gaulle airport had to be evacuated due to the large amount of snow on the roof, which was threatening to cave in. However, more importantly, the airport was running out of de-icing fluid. Close to 2000 passengers were transfered from Terminal 2E to other areas in the airport to ensure their safety. This was especially significant as part of that terminal's roof collapsed in 2004, killing four people. In addition, 400 flights, 200 arrival and 200 departure, were canceled on Friday morning and one third of the afternoon flights were canceled. Paris' other airport, Orly, is operating as normal, but many other airports in Europe are having a difficult time coping with the unexpected snow that fell over the weekend. |
