New Student Summer Field Trip Sweepstakes Launched
Tuesday, 09 February 2010
Discovery Student Adventures, the leading provider of adventure-based travel experiences for students and teachers recently announced the "Ultimate Summer Field Trip" sweepstakes on its Facebook Fan Page. Both parents of students ages 10-18 and teachers of grades K-12 are eligible to enter the online sweepstakes for a chance to win a Discovery Student Adventure trip to Italy and Greece on July 5-19, 2010. Winners will be asked to blog about their journey, provide photos and share videos that capture their "Ultimate Summer Field Trip" experience.

The sweepstake begins on February 9th and ends on April 15, 2010 with both a teacher and a student winner randomly selected for the "Ultimate Summer Field Trip." Participants can increase their chances of winning by inviting friends to enter, automatically reentering their name into the contest again each time they invite more friends to enter. Based on the teacher and student entry response rate, up to five "Ultimate Summer Field Trip" winners may be selected throughout the duration of the sweepstake.

"The 'Ultimate Summer Field Trip' is a fun way for us to engage students and teachers online about adventure travel and how it can be an integral part of the educational journey," said Anson Lee, senior director of Discovery Student Adventures.

"Not only will the winners experience Italy and Greece this summer and be immersed in the heart and soul of the Mediterranean, they will also blog and share photos and videos with friends, family and colleagues about their adventure."

The Ultimate Summer Field trip itinerary to Italy and Greece includes:

  • Climbing and spending the night on Italy's famed Mt. Etna, one of the few remaining volcanoes in Europe. While at Mt. Etna, white-water rafting the ancient Lao river.
  • Visiting the Vatican, spiritual center of the Catholic Church, world's smallest state and home to some of the greatest artistic treasures on Earth.
  • Working alongside the Archelon Association to protect the magnificent loggerhead sea turtles of Kyparissa Bay.
  • Attending a captivating and modern performance of an ancient Greek tragedy in Athens.

Discovery Student Adventures offers rich, educational travel experiences for students and teachers to explore the history, natural science, culture, art, geography and ecology of their destination.

"It's one thing to read about places in your history book, but to actually be there and see it in person is more powerful than anything else you could experience," said Jason Cochrane, a high school biology teacher from Cedar Rapids, Iowa who led a group of students to South Africa last year with Discovery Student Adventures. "We were not restricted to the usual tourist spots, but were brought into the depth of the country to witness its spirit, struggle and strength.
