New Use For Rice
Saturday, 01 December 2007
Rice If you drop your phone, PDA, digital camera or other electronic gadget in the toilet (or other body of water) while traveling, donít despair. You may be able to dry it out so that itís usable. One trick that savvy travelers have discovered is to place the item, turned off, in a bowl or bag of uncooked rice. If the air is free of excess humidity, the rice will draw the moisture out of your gadget. You can also try this with packets of silica gel, the kind that come in everything from new shoes to bottles of vitamins Ė just save them up in case of emergency.

Another way to dry out a phone is to remove the battery, dry the phone with a soft cloth, dunk it in alcohol and then let it air dry. It still may take a day or two to become functional again, but thatís better than killing it entirely.
