San Francisco Travel Tips
golden gate bridge san francisco According to USA Today, 16 million people visit San Francisco every year, and most of them aren’t prepared for the experience. Yes, the Golden Gate Bridge is awesome and there’s chocolate to be bought at Ghiradhelli Square – but the lack of parking, the constantly changing weather, and the difficulty getting a good table in the hottest restaurants can frustrate visitors who are unprepared.

But USA Today’s recent “Top Ten Tips for San Francisco Tourists” offers the lowdown on the Frisco basics – that locals despise the moniker “Frisco,” for example. And that there’s almost nowhere in the city that you can smoke, as it’s off-limits in restaurants, shops, bars, parks, public squares, city-owned outdoor spaces and at sports venues. (Visiting San Francisco might offer a good opportunity to stop smoking entirely, if you think about it.)

In a more welcoming vein, the article also offers tips on where to find the best parking (the Stockton-Sutter Garage for downtown area, the Pier 39 garage for Fisherman's Wharf), the cheapest way to tour the city (the vintage F Line streetcars, $1.50 to tour downtown and Fisherman's Wharf), and the least-known place to find a killer view (Tank Hill -- Stanyan Street to Belgrave Park, turn left and take the dirt path).
