Next time you visit the U.K. you had better think twice before snapping pictures of a British bobby for your vacation slide show. A new British anti-terrorism law went into effect on February 16, 2009 that effectively bars photographers from taking pictures of police or military personnel.The new law is actually structured to prevent terrorists from taking reconnaissance photos, but it could effectively stop anyone from taking pictures, even innocent tourists. The new act makes it a crime to "elicit, publish or communicate information" about British police or military personnel. Anyone that refuses an order by authorities to stop taking pictures after a warning will face arrest and possibly up to 10 years in prison or other possible fines. |
