Lately during my travels I have seen a lot more signs outside of the cheaper motels that seem to find it necessary that the managers of the motels are Americans.

Does this type of sinage make you want to stay at this establishment or avoid it? Or perhaps you avoid motels alltogether.

I rarely go to motels. Instead I check out the hotel chains that have a lot of american sites, simply because I know already the standards. Traveling few years ago through Europe, we found a beautiful Chateau... the rooms didn't have air conditioning and they smelled of old stuff. The beds were extremely old... so I decided to go and hunt for a Holiday Inn! And that was the best thing we could get.

Whoa, nice question there but I'll have to think a moment. Okay, first of all, I'd avoid a "cheap motel" most likely so it's moot for the most part.

BUT I think I'd be curious as to why the locals would have to "tattle" on Americans like that and it seems odd... it would make more sense for the American owner to announce that.

I'm sure that in some areas of the world, I'd be glad to find something that was American owned and operated.

This is interesting! I assumed that the motels referred to were in the US.

Now this definitely sounds like it may be a generalization to me, but I've heard of people forming the opinion that many US motels were owned by immigrants and not particularly well kept.

I haven't stayed in an American hotel or motel for years.
