Looking for a rental car good on gas. 4 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 0
I'd love to drive in _style_ on vacation but with today's gas prices going crazy I wondered if anyone had an idea of a small compact car that is reliable, safe and low on gas.

I'm not an auto buff so this may seem like a silly question! LOL I'm just seriously looking and don't want to ask a car dealer.

I normally rent compact cars or sedans when I travel and need to rent a car. I have been fond of Saturns and cars like that since they are good on the gas mileage. Depending on the size of car you need for your travels as well.

Well I'm looking at about a 2000 mile round trip. I hear Honda is pretty reliable, but wondered how the gas would be.

I'm not savvy when it comes to gas prices or figuring this at all. Honestly I've not payed much attention until the gas prices have gone up.

So now I am. I think compact will be the better choice for sure.

Almost any car you rent from a reputable rental agency will be reliable. Toyota and Honda typically offer pretty good MPG on their compact models, but don't overlook the Focus; mine is great on gas.

Remember that the effiency of the vehicle depends a lot upon your driving _style_ and proper tire inflation. Make sure that the tires all have the correct pounds of air and do not accelerate fast if you want to maximize your MPG.

Have a save trip.

Very good advice and thank you for that.

I feel I'm a smart gal, but when it comes to cars I've never been too interested in learning about them. Yet being that I'm single it should be something I at least know the basics on.

Gas hasn't been anything I've really paid attention to until the gas price increases.

Again thanks for that advice and it makes sense about car condition and driving _style_ too.

I second the motion for Honda - I have a Honda Civic, which is great on gas.

And my wife drives a Saturn, which is also a great car, but affordable.

That sounds like quite a trip. I've never put that many miles on a rental before.
