Those attempting to use www.vacanzeromane.com apartment rental service in Rome should be alert to their practice of advertising an apartment at one rate and then trying to charge a higher price for similar. In early March I booked a small apartment near the Colosseo for four days at the advertised rate of 300 Euros total.

Though I received (and printed) a confirmation screen, I did not receive a confirmation email. The following morning (the day before our departure) I emailed Vacanze Romane "www.VacanzeRomane.com" and explained that I was leaving the following day and had not received key instructions from them. Six hours later I received an email from "M" who informed me that the apartment was not really available after all, but that she could offer me two other apartments which were available at 460 Euros and 580 Euros, respectively. I replied that I thought this was unfair and that I expected to be offered a similar room at the originally advertised price. I also called friends in Rome who said that Italian law actually required the same. "M" responded that she was unaware of any such law and that basically, we could take it or leave it.

It seems clear to me that "M"/Vacanze Romane was,at best, indifferent to the fact that we were arriving in Rome within twelve hours and at worst, sought to breach a contract and illegally profit from our dilemma. This is disreputable "bait and switch" tactic than many have encountered from time to time.

Accordingly, as I indicated in a subsequent email to www.VacanzeRomane.com, I am posting negative feedback on the internet. Be alert and STAY AWAY.

Thank you for the post. I have booked rentals and have not had a problem but then I never use th company you mentioned. At first I was nervous becasue I always booked a hotel room but it turned out great especially in Paris where rooms are so expensive.

I've never booked accommodation that wasn't through a travel agent, personally.
