Finally!!!! Oh, wait, it's for first class and business class only, at least for now:

United is the first U.S. carrier to offer iPod and iPhone connectivity to
its in-flight entertainment system, enabling customers to enjoy their
individual content on a 15.4-inch personal television, all while the iPod
or iPhone charges.

Through a cable that supports iPod and iPhone via the 30-pin connector,
customers may watch and enjoy their personal content on United's in-flight entertainment system. Technology for the connectivity was developed by Panasonic Avionics Corporation.

Wouldn't that be great, to offer the same capability of connection in every seat? Just to plug it in! That would be just fantastic... well, maybe in the future, when hell freezes over and airlines don't care about making more money.

That would be great, yes... but with everything that's changing with the airlines having to offset the high fuel costs (not to mention they were having troubles before that) with all kinds of changes, I don't think I'll hold my breath.

I expect owners of iPods and iPhones would be pleased with that. I guess the advantages are being able to see the video content on a larger screen, and having the device recharge?

My first impression was that it maybe wasn't a big deal, but I guess it would be nice to watch a movie of your choice on a larger screen than the one on an iPod or iPhone.

Might be interesting for some of those long trips to use the iPod that way. I would like to use the bigger screen on a long flight as well.

well this can be said to be a good beginning...if first class today..there will definitely come a time when I pod will be offered to every seat so a good move forward....
