Winter sent its first real blast of nasty weather before the end of October and the storm has wreaked havoc on eastern Canada and the U.S. As a result, as many as 25 flights out of Toronto's Pearson International Airport on Sunday were cancelled and many more have been delayed. Flights headed for eastern and central U.S. have been affected, including those heading to Chicago, New York, and even Houston, and two flights to eastern Canada were cancelled as well, one headed for Montreal and the other for Moncton. The states of Connecticut, New Jersey, and Massachusetts declared a state of emergency as conditions cause power outages and unsafe conditions for residents. There have also been snowfall warnings issued in parts of eastern Canada as the storm intensifies and moves north. Since there were still many trees with leaves, the snow could hang on, making many branches heavy enough to fall off and causing some trees to topple.
