On Thursday, Philippine Airlines (PAL) will finally resume normal flight operations, two months after workers held a work stoppage. The work stoppage was to protest the outsourcing of employees from three different departments that began on October 1 and resulted in the separation of 2300 employees. Prior to the October 1 outsourcing, on September 27, workers in the PAL Employees Association (Palea) had refused to carry out their duties, causing the airline to lose millions of dollars in revenues. Having already resumed its cargo flights and full in-flight meal service, the airline expects to run and average of 140 flights per day with 50-60 domestic flights and 80 international flights daily. This is bouncing back from a cut of 30% to domestic flights and 12% to international flights. However, Palea is currently checking into the legality of the outsourcing program.
