While passengers flying on U.S. flights can easily access their Wi-Fi during the flight for the purposes of entertainment, business, and staying in touch, in Canada Wi-Fi is prohibited on aircraft. However, now Transport Canada is considering changing the rules, considering that Wi-Fi is available on approximately 1/3 of all flights within the U.S. The decision has been made to test the use of Wi-Fi on two routes that Air Canada flies. These routes are from Montreal to either Toronto or Los Angeles and there has been no timeline set for how long the trial will last, but it is being used by Transport Canada as a means of assessing potential regulatory change. Passengers on the two planes equipped with Wi-Fi pay a fee of $10 for the service and those who have used it thus far have reported they are very satisfied.
