Power loss and disrupted flights are the result of a severe windstorm that blew through the Los Angeles area on Thursday, with gale-force winds that took out trees and power lines. More than 35,000 customers lost power, including the Los Angeles International Airport, which was without power for an hour. The power outage caused more than 12 incoming flights to be diverted to other airports and and there were numerous flight delays even after the power was restored. A state of emergency was declared for Los Angeles County and school closures were plentiful. Damaging winds also affected states to the west, including Utah, where more than 55,000 customers lost power. Fallen trees caused damage to cars, houses, and other buildings and limbs and branches littered the streets. See the original Google News article for more details. |
