Sixty Percent of Pet Owners Traveled with Their Pets in 2010

Pet Relocation, a pet travel service provider that serves travelers globally, released the results of its second annual Summer Pet Survey today. More than 10,000 pet owners were surveyed globally during the month of April and the primary finding from the survey was that 60% of pet owners traveled with their pets in 2010.

Other results from the survey include the summer travel trend, which indicates the total number of pet owners who plan to travel with their pets during the 3 months following April was 58%, compared to 57% in April of 2010. The average number of people who travel with their pets monthly dropped to 22% from 38% and 57% of those surveyed said they travel once a year with their pets.

When it comes to money spent on pet travel an astonishing 28% of pet owners say they spend more than $1000 of pet products and services related to pet travel. This is compared to the 48% who spend less than $500 per year. In addition, feelings regarding the expense of air travel for pets is more favourable, with only 18% finding it prohibitive compared to 38% last year. Finally, 10% more people chose hotels based on the fact that they were pet-friendly.
