Snow Storm Causes Flight Cancelations in the Pacific Northwest
Thursday, 19 January 2012
The Pacific Northwest is experiencing a winter snow storm that is expected to disrupt flights, particularly in the Seattle/Tacoma region. In a proactive movement, Alaska Airlines has already canceled 38 flights. They operate out of Seattle, with a smaller hub in Portland. Paul McElroy, spokesperson for the airline, says that they try to keep the cancelations to routes that are scheduled to fly multiple times per day. That way they can accommodate passengers more quickly when they have to switch them to an alternate flight.

The airline is also trying to keep flights to Hawaii, the Midwest, and the East Coast operating. Alaska has waived re-booking fees and rules for a number of passengers in light of the cancelations and there are other airlines in the region who are taking the same measures. Snowfall in Seattle can cause significant problems for the city, a city that is known for its intense rainfall.
