Southwest Airlines has announced plans to cut 12 flights from the Tampa International Airport (TIA). The cuts will take place August 12, 2012 and are just the beginning of what the airline is calling a major adjustment of their service since merging with AirTran. The focus in the future will be on long-haul flights as spokesperson for the airline, Brad Hawkins, said that most of the passengers who fly with Southwest take long-haul flights. The cuts in flights will leave TIA without any non-stop flights to Jacksonville and the only hope fore future flights to Jacksonville is if another airline steps in to take over. Southwest has also cut one flight from Tampa to Milwaukee. In addition, they have pulled AirTran service out of Rochester, New York and Sarasota. There are other routes that will be diminished in their frequency. See the original Google News article for more details. |
