An executive from Southwest Airlines said on Sunday that the carrier plans to offer more international flights through their AirTran subsidiary, which Southwest acquired earlier this year. The plan is to obtain government approval in order to offer four additional non-stop flights to Mexico in the summer of 2012 including San Antonio, Texas, to Cancun and Mexico City and Orange County, California, to Cabo San Lucas and Mexico City. This is considered the first of potentially many new announcements for increased international service, according to Southwest chief commercial officer and AirTran Airways president, Bob Jordan. Orange County is not currently served by AirTran, but it does already offer international flights to destinations such as Aruba, the Bahamas, and Bermuda. The carrier also announced cities in which they will cease operations next year. See the original Google News article for more details. |
