Spanair is Out of Business
Sunday, 29 January 2012
Spanair, the Spanish airline that has been struggling recently, has had its last flight. Yesterday at 10:00 pm the final Spanair flight touched down and all scheduled flights after have been canceled. This affects 120 flights and 23,000 passengers who will have to make alternate arrangements. The reason for the sudden halt in service is that take-over talks with Qatar Airways Ltd. broke down and with no more funding being offered by the government, they are out of money.

The airline is legally responsible for ensuring that all passengers affected by the cancelations are taken care of, whether that be by making other travel arrangements or refunding their ticket price. In both the Madrid and Barcelona airports rooms have been made available for those passengers who have been affected. Iberia is offering a special rate to all Spanair passengers.
