Tuesday night met with clogged skies around New York as winds gusting up to 50 mph were wreaking havoc for those aircraft trying to land. Three metropolitan airports faced delays and many flights had to be diverted to other cities in order to clear the skies and ensure the safety of passengers and crew. The delays were the result of the wind as fewer planes can land per hour when winds are high. If fuel is running low, then some flights must be diverted. The winds on Tuesday night were stronger than they had expected. As of 10 pm flights into Newark International Airport were delayed by about 2 hours and flights into LaGuardia Airport were delayed by about 1.5 hours. There were also some delays reported at Kennedy International Airport. See the original Google News article for more details. |
