Struggling Air Zimbabwe Halts Flights to UK
Tuesday, 03 January 2012
Air Zimbabwe has canceled all flights to the UK as one of their aircraft has been impounded by an American aviation firm to which Air Zimbabwe owes $1.5 million. The airline recently canceled flights to Johannesburg, also for financial reasons. The Chairman of Air Zimbabwe, Jonathan Kadzura, that the airline does not have the capacity to serve Johannesburg or the UK any longer, but others say the cancelation of flights to the UK is an effort to keep more of their aircraft from being impounded.

The airline is in negotiations with Bid Air Services in South Africa in order to settle their debt of $500,000. However, the airline still has flights going to Zambia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and China. While Kadzura blames the government for not helping out the airline, political analyst Alex Magaisa says that the airline must rebrand and take care of their own financial situation. One of their problems as been mismanagement and certainly things have to change.
