Summer is not only a time of travel, it is a time to hang out in the backyard and BBQ. However, BBQ safety is something that is usually left on the back burner, which can be dangerous for hosts and guests alike. Communication Manager with Allstate Insurance, Tracey King, stresses that even though it is easy to get lost in the fun of the summer BBQ season, taking some precautions is wise during summer parties.
General safety should always be observed when preparing for a backyard party. Ensure that any safety hazards are removed from the yard. For those potential hazards that cannot be removed, ensure a barrier is put up around them, particularly those that might pose a threat to young children. Pools should have a fence surrounding it and a latched gate. Other safety barriers are advised, such as alarms, locks, and safety covers. When it comes to BBQ safety, grills should be checked for safety hazards, such as possible gas leaks, which can be checked by putting soapy water over the connections. Care should be taken when lighting a grill and a lit grill should never be left unattended. Keep pets and small children away from the grill and when it is not in use, turn the gas off. |
