Tampa International Airport (TIA) is set to make a huge expansion costing $27.6 million. The target of the expansion will be the airport's oldest airside terminal, which will be expanded to accommodate more international flights, reducing the bottlenecking at security gates and baggage claim areas. Almost all of the airport's international flights arrive and depart from Airside F terminal, which was built in 1987. The renovations would allow TIA to accept three wide-body flights (such as the Boeing 767) at the same time, says the CEO of TIA, Joe Lopano. Thanks to Lopano, who started with TIA a year ago, the airport has landed their first European flights in 15 years. May 2012 will see Edelweiss will begin flights from Tampa to Zurich, Switzerland two times a week. See the original Google News article for more details. |
