Despite the fact that the economy is struggling and the number of passengers are down 2% from this time last year, Thanksgiving travel is still booming. Travelers can expect the flights to be full at the busiest travel time of the year. The demand may be lower, but air carriers have cut their capacity, which is resulting in full flights. The Air Transport Association (ATA) is expecting approximately 23.2 carriers to fly with American carriers over the holiday weekend, with Sunday, November 27, and Monday, November 28 expected to be the busiest travel days. The ATA recently released a study that shows that publicly-reporting passenger airlines have experienced a 66% drop in in their income in the first nine months of 2011 compared to the same period of 2010. The income in the first nine months of 2011 was $913 million. See the original Google News article for more details. |
