It is time for the Biltmore Festival of Flowers, which is held each spring. This is the 26th annual and is running from April 2 to May 15, 2011. The event will be held throughout the 8000-acre George Vanderbilt property and it celebrated the estate and the landscaping design of Frederick Law Olmsted, who is known as the father of modern landscape architecture. The entrance to the estate is a sea of tulips in colors of purple, white, pink, red, and yellow and tulips are displayed in other areas of the grounds, as well as many other types of flowers in a wide array of colors. The Conservatory and the Winter Garden will have live music each day, there will be an “Ask a Gardner” station, Deerpark will have an art show, there will be various seminars, and the festival will include the annual Easter Egg Hunt on Easter Sunday, April 24. |
