More than 1400 U.S. travelers participated in the second annual vacation rentals survey conducted by TripAdvisor®. An astounding 40% of those surveyed plan on getting a vacation rental this year, which means a busy season for vacation rental homes and cottages. In addition, 33% of those surveyed said they stayed in a vacation rental in 2010.
There are a few other statistics of which to take note. Of those surveyed 52% plan on making use of their vacation rental during the summer months and 47% plan on staying in a beach-front rental. Also, 31% plan on vacationing in the Southwest. Reasons people prefer vacation rentals include more space, access to a full kitchen, and the lower price, often more competitive than hotels. Most people who book rentals do so well in advance of their trip, with 22% booking more than 6 months in advance and 34% booking between 3 and 6 months in advance. Luxuries people would prefer in a rental is to have one on a private beach, that includes maid service, with a hot tub, and some even would like a personal chef. Significant events have been the draw for 36% of respondants staying in a rental. People check out photos, traveler reviews, and cost when choosing a rental and most find their rental on the internet. |
