Breaking News - The Air Canada Strike Is On
Wednesday, 15 June 2011
It is official! Call center representatives and gate agents and check-in agents from nine Canadian airports are on strike. The strike date is June 14, 2011, but Air Canada lends its assurances that no services at any international airports in Canada or the U.S. will be affected. In addition, Air Canada plans to operate a full schedule of flights despite the strikes. However, they do warn that some disruptions in travel may occur. The airports affected by the strike are those in Edmonton, Calgary, Halifax, St. John's, Montreal, Toronto Pearson, Ottawa, Vancouver, and Winnipeg.

Air Canada has implemented a “contingency service plan” and the airline is asking all passengers to check in with the airline either inline or on their mobile device before going to the airport. In addition, passengers are being asked to avoid checked baggage whenever possible. Travel agents are being asked to re-book any flights cancelled involuntarily by using Air Canada's online booking service and those travelers who request it can enjoy free same-day flight changes when they request it at check-in.
