With renovations complete, the Queen Mary now has modernized accommodations in its 314 staterooms as well as the 3 restaurants on board, the Royal Wedding Chapel, and its 18,700 feet of meeting space. Of course, even though the renovations were intended to update the ship, the art deco style of the ship has been preserved. General Manager, Uwe Roggenthien, explains that it was very important to them that the historic appeal and authenticity of the ship remain intact, while adding the amenities that travelers expect of a major cruise ship. Renovations in the staterooms included updating the carpets and drapes, adding docking ports for iPods, and installing flat screen TVs. In addition, restaurant menus were updated, one restaurant was completely redesigned, the Chapel repainted with new carpet, drapes, and pews, and the meeting rooms also had new carpets and drapes installed. An art deco art historian was consulted during the renovations. |
