A volunteer clean-up project will be hosted by Tourism Cares, a non-profit organization that is dedicated to caring for and preserving natural and historical sites worldwide. The clean-up will take place at the National Mall and Memorial Parks in Washington, D.C. on September 11, 2009. This event has been dubbed the Tourism Cares for America Volunteer Day and is the first of its kind in the U.S.
Volunteers who help out on the day of the event will be painting at the World War II Memorial, the Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial, and Lafayette Park, all of which are important national historical sites. Volunteers will be working from 10:00 until 3:00 and must be at least 16 years old. Volunteers under the age of 18 must have a waiver signed by and be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. The registration fee is $49 for adults and $29 for students. Registration and wavier forms are available on the Tourism Cares web site. |
