DDB conducted the DDB Lifestyle Study to determine what annoys air travelers the most. They had the choice of sitting next to a crying baby, sitting next to a boring person who won't stop talking, sitting next to someone with a strong body odor, or sitting next to an obese person. The result was that a whopping 64% chose sitting next to someone with strong body odor and this result spanned the full range of age, gender, and parenthood status.
Sitting next to a crying baby came in second, at a distant 23%. The next two were sitting next to a boring talking person at 8% and an obese person at 6%. U.S. Chief Strategist at DDB, James Lou, says that they were surprised that crying babies didn't rank higher, since there is a push to create family-only sections on larger aircraft. Many people have expressed the desire for child-free flights. Of course, of those who were tolerant of sitting next to a crying baby, a large portion of them were parents of children aged five and under, while parents with children aged six and up were less tolerant. There has also been consideration given to making obese people pay for an extra seat on an aircraft, but sitting next to one was the least uncomfortable option for those surveyed. |
