Visiting The Garden Island Of Kauai

Kauai is known as the Garden Island and is the most northern island in the Hawaiian Island chain. The island of Kauai is also the oldest of the eight major Hawaiian islands and although it is small, roughly 25 miles by 33 miles, the island is home to some of the most beautiful scenery anywhere.
One of the best things about Kauai is that since it is so far to the north, over 100 miles from Honolulu, it has escaped the major development that has happened on the other islands. This is why it is called the Garden Island, because 97% of it is untouched wilderness consisting of rainforests and mountains. What a place to visit! The island has 58,000 permanent residents and 43 miles of pristine beaches and the building codes do not allow any buildings over four storeys to be built on the island. Places of interest include the 3000-foot cliffs of the Na Pali Coast, the Waimea Canyon, the Wailua and Opeakka Falls, and Kilauea Point. |
