With the recent eruption of the Eyjafjallajokull Volcano in Iceland interest in volcanic tours has increased significantly, according to Einar Gustavsson, who is Director of the Icelandic Tourist Board. News coverage of the eruption was nothing short of incredible as the world focused on the tiny nation and its erupting monster. From news shows like Today to entertainment shows like Saturday Night Live, it was covered by virtually everyone that could possibly do so. However, the tourist industry held it together and ensured that those traveling in or to Iceland at the time were taken care of and that their experience was as good as possible. This happened despite road closures, flight delays, re-routed flights, and even last-minute changes to cancellation policies. Of course, now things are getting back to normal and with travel allowed in the country once again, tourists are scrambling to get their chance to see the volcano up close and personal. |
