No one can say that the airlines are COMPLETELY dumb when it comes to listening to their customers. An industry-wide fare increase, started last week by Delta Air Lines and matched by most other U.S. airlines, has been rescinded, prompting airline industry analysts to believe that the chances for further fare hikes are fading for the immediate future.
As of Monday morning, even Delta had removed the $5 one-way fare increase, which failed to be added by enough airlines to overcome competitive pressures. Airlines are struggling to offset historically high fuel prices and have raised fares several times in the last year. Most airline industry watchers now beleive that trend may be coming to a close. This may force airlines to run their companies intelligently and pay their CEOs close to what they are worth. |
