The expo will run from May 1 to October 1 and will be the first time a developing country has hosted the prestigious event. More than $700 million has been spent in renovating the riverfront and another $45 million has gone into updating the transportation system and city infrastructure. It is hoped that the growth in tourism will make it all worthwhile. One million copies of the Expo 2010 Shanghai China Official Guidebook has been printed so far and is now on sale in newspaper kiosks, bookstores, and supermarkets.
